Hebrews 13:14 (KJV) For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
Parable: Amoung Thorns. Some seed fell among thorns and weeds. It sprang up and grew, but it’s full growth was prevented by the thorns and weeds, which can grow almost anywhere. So it is with us…the pressures, cares, and perplexities of life keep us from fully growing in Christ. God’s grace must be cultivated, and the Holy Spirit must be allowed to refine and ennoble us. But the cares of this life that should drive the thorny-ground hearers to the savior actually separate them from Him, and they neglect t to put the spiritual things of life first. They must go to work and carry on their business, and they may do that without committing sin, but they become so absorbed that they have no time for prayer, the study of the bible, or seeking and serving God. Devotional time is crowded out, and what should be made first is made last.
The culture of tiday is fast becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah. The many holidays with an emphasis on pleasure, exciting sports, media productions, horse racing, gambling, drinking, and partying, sweep peopke away, especially the youth. They may repent and change, and God may pardon them, but they have hurt their ability to recognize the guiding voice of the Holy Spirit. If any love the world and the things of this world, the love of Jesus and their heavenly father is not in them.
